Outreach

Our Mission Committee has been very active in adding new projects and continuing other projects of outreach to our community.  Our projects include:

  • Driver Assistance Program: A service for members who need assistance getting to/from doctor appointments, groceries, etc.

  • Prayer Shawl Ministry: Started in Fall 2010, several prayer shawls have been made with love and delivered to those in need. There have been a record 142 shawls made with 130 of them given out.  That count is as of March 2013.

A wonderful news article highlighted this mission last spring resulting in request for shawls along with acknowledgements from people who have received them.

We have been blessed with many generous donations of yarn for those who knit/crochet these beautiful gifts from the heart, and give thanks for them.

  • Ronald McDonald House: Donating our "pocket change" towards their new facility.  We have made quilts to comfort those staying there.
  • Adopt-A-Highway: We are committed to being God's stewards in a variety of ways...one of which is to take care of our environment.
  • Food Pantry: Our donations are delivered to St. Matthew's Church to help our local community on a monthly basis.

Continued Mission projects are:

  • Crop Walk, Adopted Family Christmas Collection, School Supply Collection (our 7th year), Annual Sock Drive for East Syr Elementary School, Rescue Mission Mitten Tree collection (our 4th year), along with monthly visits to residents at Sunnyside Adult Home bringing them some sunshine and treats.
Newest Mission project - My Brother's Keepers:
  • Collection of materials needed to make sleeping bags for homeless people.  During this somewhat long and cold winter there has been a great need for them.  Collamer United Church members are hoping to begin making the bags soon. We welcome donations of  blankets and sheets as the base for the sleeping bags.
